October 17, 2006 Board Meeting Minutes
                      
Attendees: Tiffany Nickel, James Watson, Jenny Kreutzer, Dennis Brungardt, Barney Hoss, Mark Seaver, Denis Cleary.

September 06 Minutes: Minutes were unanimously approved as read.

Old Business:

  • Tennis:
    • Tennis 2007 tentative dates: June 22-24th. Depends on Futures Tournament. Dennis to find out from Jack at Riverside and should know by next month’s meeting.
    • Court costs increasing due to increased costs to Riverside.
  • General Fundraising Campaigns:
    • Board was divided into two groups.
      • Mark and Dennis B. worked on WSI Goals
      • Jenny and Barney worked on WSI Activities
      • See attachments for updates
    • Mark, Barney, & Dennis B. will get together off-line to work up annual budget by 11/1/06
  • Bylaws-Barney moved and Mark 2nd that we approve the amendments as sent. Unanimously approved.
  • Horseback riding wrap-up: In total, with family/friends, there were 23 participants (14 wheelchair users) and 5 volunteers. Mark donated the hot dogs and buns. Expenses: $ for drinks/tableware; $ to Burning Sage Ranch.
  • Paralympic Academy: Online motion that WSI participate in/send two members to this Academy the weekend of October 21 in Kansas City. James amended the motion that we pay for hotel, gas, etc for two board members to attend. Denis C. 2nd it. Unanimously approved. This event may be cancelled. Will know later today/tomorrow whether it is going to be cancelled.
  • Venture Club: Jenny made a motion that WSI pay for room costs, if any, and pizza for a Venture Crew event at The Alley on November 6th. Barney 2nd the motion and it was unanimously approved. Jenny and Tiffany to work on getting letters and Venture Crew letters this week.
  • The Nov. 13th Basketball Clinic has been cancelled because there was no one at WSI willing to take it on. WSI is still willing to help sponsor the event. Grady will make contact with Ray Petty to try to arrange something.
  • Sponsorship request letter and checklist: Current budget is $ for scholarships. The board discussed what limits should be set. No specific dollar amount or process was decided upon. Tiffany will send the letters out to bowlers and say there will be limited amount of funds available for scholarships per bowler. Proof of receipt will be required. Mark, Barney, and Dennis B. will get together off-line to work up the sponsorship specifications by next meeting.

New Business     

  • Wagon Ho: October 21 at Burning Sage Ranch. To introduce/recognize the new Wagon. Nancy would like two people from WSI to attend. Tiffany will go if the Paralympic Academy is cancelled. James will contact Jordan to see if he can go. Jenny cannot go.
  • Tiffany, on behalf of WSI, nominated Grady Landrum for the Reach award. He was one of the top 4 outstanding individuals recognized. There will be a ceremony on November 4. Barney made a motion and Jenny 2nd that we get a half page ad in the commemorative books to congratulate Grady. Tiffany will wordsmith the ad.
  • PVA wants to do more activities in Kansas. Next may they want to do a trapshoot in Sedgwick (it is wheelchair accessible). WSI would like to get involved in those activities, possibly through sponsorship, members involvement, etc. Mark to circulate the WSI Community Activities letter to PVA newsletter. Mark to pursue this partnership.
  • Handcycling: The CycleFest is the 1st weekend in May. Jake O’Conner has announced that he is moving to AZ in November. This could impact the Kansas City Wheelchair Road and Track group. James/WSI will do what they can to help keep the organization going.
  • WSI banner is getting worn. Barney made a motion and Denis Cleary 2nd that WSI purchase a table covering with logo and possibly a flag. Motion unanimously approved. Tiffany and James to look into purchasing these things. Mark reminded the group not to get rid of the old banner. It can be printed.
