September 2007 Board Meeting Minutes
Attendees: Tiffany Nickel, Rebecca Strickert, Adam Kiess, Barney Hoss, James Watson, Mark Seaver, and Jenny Kreutzer.
Guests: Grady Landrum and Vanessa Galloway (Wichita Business Journal)
Presentation: Wichita Business Journal, Vanessa Galloway. She presented options for charitable rate advertising. They do a buy one get one free type of promotion. If we paid for 6 ¼ page ads they would run 12 times for $900. Also have the option of putting a ¼ page ad in the List Book for $500. The circulation is 6500 (but is distributed/routed throughout offices).
August 2007 Minutes: Jenny motioned to approve the minutes as corrected. Barney seconded.
Treasurer’s report:
- Current Profit/Expense Report – See Attached
- Review Final Expense/Profit sheet for events (tennis clinic/Maureen Connelly Fund)
- Jenny and Abbey haven’t paid for Tennis. Jenny to get check to Rebecca after the meeting tonight. Grady will contact Abbey.
- Have not received the Maureen Connelly fund yet. Grady will check with Pat to see what the status of the check is.
- Youth Sponsorship Fund was given to Leo and Devin
- New Sponsorship $$
- KS Truck - check in mail
Old Business:
- TENNIS TOURNAMENT/LESSON, WRAP UP
- Grady has some left over bottles that he will bring to the Horseback riding event.
- Next year we’ll consider ending lessons at the end of July. Participation significantly declines after that.
- Possible Winter get together with the 8 youth that were active this summer
- Equipment Maintenance
- James will email the revised Waiver and Indemnification form that all users of our equipment must complete by Friday, September 21.
- Grady has 24 inch wheels he got from Tim and is donating them to WSI.
- Jenny will call Dustin Casey to arrange getting the tennis chair he has back.
- Jenny and Grady will get together to put inventory of Tennis chairs together (currently we have 4 or 5 at WSU and the following people have one: Jenny, Abbey, Dustin)
- Mark will bring a catalog to next meeting to decide on stickers/labels for WSI owned equipment
- Website
- Looking for new site by December
- It will cost $50 to change over to the new site.
- Todd will aim to have a mock up of the site by the end of this month
- Marketing materials - Adam
- Replenish Supplies
- Give away items – ice packs, ribbon magnets, mints - Table
- Promo CD – Grady will look to see what video he has of the tennis tournament
- Display Board Falling Apart – Tiffany adjusted the hinges and it’s okay for now
- Trailer estimates (Mark)
- Mark will get estimates on what it will take to widen his gate and WSI will consider reimbursing Mark for that expense.
- Mark and James need to decide on size and come prepared with a proposal next meeting; including a decision on whether we paint the WSI logo or use vinyl.
- Wichita Business Journal ads
- WSI decided not to pursue any advertising options with WBJ. Tiffany will communicate the decision to Vanessa.
- We may consider asking our sponsors next year to sponsor us in their Corporate Citizenship special addition ($3600)
- Tables until we can look at next year’s budget
- Children’s Miracle Network, Health Foundation, Tennis grant, Spirit, Target Grant – Committee Met
- The committee is working on a grant for CMN. It is focused on a Youth Tennis Program. The deadline is 10/31/07. They would like to request 4 wheelchairs for youth ($7200). WSI would be asked to contribute to the program (about $2400) by providing funds for lessons ($1100), court costs ($592), Clinic ($120), balls, maintenance, racquets, etc ($588). Grady will send the information to Tiffany to wordsmith.
- Mo Connelly may also be interested in funding a youth program as well. Grady is working that.
- James will look for information on the Health Foundation grant on the website
- Horseback Extravaganza 9/23/07 at 2:30 – Mark
- Food – Mark will pick up; Grady’s cooking
- Volunteers – Tiffany’s dad will bring the tables; James will bring coolers/ice; Brittney will be there to help
- Approx. 11 people have RSVP
- Camp-Out 9/28/07 – Jenny
- Food – Jenny has $20 Gift Certificate from Dillons and will do the shopping
- Volunteers – LeRoy, BSA instructor
- Hand Cycles – James will get handcycle to Tiffany’s dad who will bring it to Jenny’s house on Sunday.
- People that have RSVP’d – Don, Tyler, Kelly, Jenny, Erlene, Tiffany – Jenny will call additional people on Wednesday.

- Jenny will adapt the Challenges Athletes Form (Competition Part) and be prepared to present to the board next month.

- Price - $10/person for bowling and $12/person if they want to use the go-cart. Free shoe rental. James made a motion that WSI pay for $5 for WSI members and that pizza and drinks be provided by WSI. Jenny seconds.
- Food – WSI to provide pizza and drinks. Adam checking to see if we can get a discount
- Mailings – Adam will manage
- Boundless Playground
- Donation – They have asked that in lieu of a donation we send a letter of support
- Letter of support – Jenny will write on behalf of WSI
- Challenge Aspen fundraiser – November 10th
- The committee has asked that we find auction items of $50 value or more to donate to the event by October 25.
- Tickets are $100
- Possibility of this fundraiser donating $10,000 to WSI.
New Business:
- WSI Laptop – James recommends we get a laptop. He will shop around and come prepared with estimates for next meeting so we can frame up a decision.
- Annual Meeting – Tentatively set for the 3rd Saturday in January at the Heskett Center at WSU. Grady will look into getting a room downstairs in the Heskett Center that would be more comfortable for us to have the meeting in.
- Thunder Hockey Fundraiser – Nick is thinking about doing the fundraiser during spring break again. Grady will have him send Tiffany a note with some dates so she can add him to the next meeting agenda.
- Adaptive Golf Program – Adam will be the liaison between the program and WSI.
